Acting your way into new feeling
Waiting for an unpleasant feeling to change by itself is like praying for a lottery win without buying a ticket. We can act as if we were happy, had self- esteem, were proud of ourselves and as if we had humour. Acting our way into new feelings is not to lie, to impress someone, or to hide ‘real’ feelings. It is to learn to feel different.
- Practise at home in front of the mirror! Breathe deeply and imagine yourself standing on a stage and acting for the public the most convincing role they’ve ever seen. How would…(happiness, self esteem,…) look like? How would its face, its posture look like, how would it speak, what would it say?
- Practice together with your partner or a friend! Invite him/her to let Mr. Self- esteem meet Mrs. Confident and see how a dialogue between the two of them would be.
- Go out and walk in the street acting your feeling. No one will mind, people will probably only turn their head and think :”Wow so much self-esteem!” or “What a happy person!”.
