Bringing simplicity into your life
Simplicity is not catharsis, it is the controvert to overload from luxury, distraction, and restlessness. If we have simplicity we have everything.
A lot of exercises for simplicity come out of Eastern traditions, such as Buddhism. They teach us, how to land and relax in the present moment and how to stop worrying and desiring.
- Experiment with simplicity for your mind: If you walk, focus your mind on your walking. If you eat, focus your mind on your eating. If you are out in nature fous your mind on what you smell, hear and see. If you make love, focus your mind on what you feel and how the other one enjoys. If you have a break, focus your mind on your breathing.
- Experiment with simplicity for your soul:
If you spend some time with a dear friend, do not speak a lot, look each other in the eyes, take silent walks together, massage each other, touch each other, read out loud to each other from your favourite books. Spend time with your mobiles turned off, without watching TV or reading the newspaper, just be. If you have some time alone for yourself, nurture your soul with simple things f.ex: take at least twenty minutes to enjoy a cup of tea in silence.
- Get creative where else in your life you could experiment and integrate simplicity!
